Abstract

For the purpose of vibration suppression of smart structures embedded with shape memory alloy (SMA), a finite element model with nonlinear constitutive relations was established, together with some experiments to validate the effect of the active vibration control. Experimental and computation results indicate that SMA can be an effective driver for vibration control and the active strain energy tuning method can obviously affect the natural frequency of the structure, which can change the fundamental frequency more than others methods.
