Abstract

To meet the requirements of the outdoor radar target scattering measurement, a 2-channel instrumentation radar based on pulse-to-pulse frequency shifting technique was designed and realized. The radar can perform radar-cross section(RCS) measurement simultaneously on two fixed frequency band, and test 2-demension imaging cooperated with a rotation platform. The pulse-to-pulse frequency shifting technique avoids the problems causing by the non-linear error of the linear frequency modulation. To farthest eliminate the errors causing by the outdoor phantom signals and the background clutters, a series of range gate pulses generated by FPGA were set and the high resolution imaging technique was used. The quadrature errors can be corrected by a real time calibration branch. The principles of the pulse-to-pulse frequency shifting are summarized, the design and realization are presented, the hardware in the loop simulation method is introduced and the test result is given and analyzed.
