Abstract

The abstract refers to some aspects concerning the reliability of engineering materials and the reliability of mechanical components. Emphasis is placed on the scattering of mechanical properties of engineering materials and probability distribution of data; the sources of the scattering of properties, inhomogeneous chemical composition and microstructure and influence of manufacturing; the relationship between the probability distribution of microstructures and the probability distribution of mechanical properties of engineering materials; the reliability of materials; and the relationship between the reliability of materials and the reliability of mechanical components.
