Abstract
Vertical rays casting towards the workpiece from top to bottom and vice versa are used to detect the visibility of its surfaces and classify them into die, punch and undercut ones. Once the parting direction of a mould is defined, its parting lines can be readily got as the contour lines where the boundaries of die surfaces visible from top align with those of punch surfaces visible from bottom.
