Abstract

Brake noise has always been an important concern of quality problems in the automotive industry. Among all the noises generated by brakes, squeal is the most common anddisturbing one for passengers and the environment. In order to simulatethe brake squeal,a complete finiteelement model of disc brake is established, and the transient dynamic responsesof specifiednodes in the modelare calculated by ABAQUS. Thevibration velocity field of the disc is abstracted from above simulation, and tndelivered to the established vehicle and environment model in acoustic software LMS Virtual Lab. Then the simulation of the radiation sound field of brake squeal is carried out by using the indirect boundary element method. And the sound power spectrum of the brake squeal and sound pressure spectrum at specified points are calculated and analyzed. Moreover, for the case of covering the wheel cover with the damping materials, theradiation noise of the disc brake is also calculated, andthe results show that the damping materials are effective in noise reduction.
