Abstract

The finite element model of composite overwrapped pressure vessels are established by ANSYS parameter design language (APDL). The variational thickness and wrap angle of the domes of pressure vessels are reflected in the model, i.e. the truth of the structure is reflected. Using the model, static strain analysis is conducted under internal pressure. The compare between simulation and test result validate the veracity of the model. So the progressive failure analysis is done. With the load increasing, the detailed messages of layer-by-layer failure are obtained. They can provide gist for the design of composite pressure vessels.
