Abstract

At present, it is desirable to find a preferable medium for mid-infrared transparency. In this paper, a kind of birefringence holey fibre (HF) is proposed. Its background is the gallium lanthanum chalcogenide glass (GLS) which remains highly transparent from 0.5 to 10νm, has high refractive index n and high nonlinear refractive index n2. In the HF, high birefringence, high nonlinear coefficient and low confinement loss are simultaneously achieved in the wavelength region from visible light to mid-infrared. Meanwhile the waveguide dispersion can be adjusted flexibly. The birefringence comes up to 0.088, and at 1.55νm the nonlinear coefficient runs up to 3.80m -1W-1.
