Abstract

Preliminary results for the synthesis of ultrafine particles of several materials by high-power laser irradiation are reported. Metastable phases of Fe and ZrO2 prepared in argon; Al2O3, MoO3, TiO2, SiO2 prepared in O, and TiN in N2. Phase analyses show that the Fe powder contains approximately 20% γ-phase and the ZrO2 powder consists of two new different (metastable) phases of ZrO2. The lattice parameters obtained from X-ray powder data are reported.
