Preliminary design and effect evaluation of enclosed stealth mast

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The design of an enclosed stealth mast of a typical mast-antenna system is discussed in this paper, and the preliminary design method and principle is presented. To ensure the normal function of the observation and communication equipments, the design method of transmission windows and the using of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) are investigated. A comparison between the scattering characteristic of the original mast and its enclosed stealth mast design is conducted. The results show that the enclosed stealth mast can effectively reduce the radar cross section(RCS) of a mast-antenna system in a broad angular domain and significantly improve its electromagnetic scattering performance.
