Abstract
Using an improved micromechanical cylinder model, a variational method is presented to determine the mechanical properties and stress field of rubber-toughened polymers. This model can approximately reflect the overall isotropy of the material. The calculation is simple compared to the finite element method, and the results fit quite well with the experimental measurements. This type of modelling can provide a better understanding of deformation mechanisms for development of this important engineering material.
