Abstract

With the need for low cost, safe, and reliable ways to get to space, the concept of magnetic launch assist for space fight was described and the power supply requirement was analyzed. After the pivotal technology and current development of solid rocket propellant pulsed MHD generator were emphatically investigated, the power supply scheme for 100 ton ground payload (space vehicle and magnetic levitation sled) achieving 4 g (gravity) acceleration was proposed and designed based on four Sakhalin pulsed MHD generators in Russian. By the characteristic analysis of acceleration and control of three phase linear motor used in magnetic launch assist, the feasible inverter conversion system scheme was proposed.
