Abstract

Polarization-multiplexed mode-locked fiber laser capable of supporting orthogonal coexistence of different types of solitons with a widely tunable repetition rate difference (Δfrep) is experimentally demonstrated. Unlike previous demonstrations of polarization-multiplexed fiber lases where only one type of soliton is generated depending on the cavity dispersion, both a conventional soliton and a dissipative soliton can be generated simultaneously in the same cavity. Experimental results show that the Δfrep can be tuned within a few hundred hertz by adjusting the birefringence inside the cavity with a minimal Δfrep as low as 2.5 Hz.
