Abstract

This paper presents a Plane Wave Generator (PWG) for 5G base stations (BSs) Over-The-Air (OTA) testing at sub-6 GHz. A 16times 16 elements array which has a dimension of 1.7 mathrm{m}times 1.7 mathrm{m} is developed. 4-element sub-arrays are employed to reduce the number of channels to 64 in the feeding network. A cylindrical quiet zone with a diameter of 0.8 m and a length of 0.6 m is achieved at 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz. The amplitude and phase variation values are less than ±0.7 dB and ±6.5° in simulation, respectively. The measured typical E-field amplitude and phase deviation values of the centre quiet zone are less than ±0.8 dB and ±9°. The measurement results agree with the simulation results reasonably well.
