Abstract

With the development of intelligent transportation and autonomous vehicles, conventional tires are upgrading to smart tires, which are expected to provide new functions. In this article, we proposed a piezoelectric device integrated smart tire, through which, driving induced mechanical energy is converted to the electric energy, which is further used to interpret vehicle's load and speed, and energy harvesting. In our experiments, the average detection error of speed and load reached 4.15 % and 5.23 %, respectively, and 22.6 pJ can be collected averagely during one wheel rotation. The presented work demonstrates a possible developing trend of smart tires, potentially advancing the filed.
