Abstract

In this work we propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonics-assisted microwave spectral scanning system that realizes high-speed sweep over ultra-broad bandwidth. Enabled by coherent dual electro-optical frequency combs and a recirculating optical frequency shifter, the proof-of-concept experimental setup covers the frequency range from ∼ 1 to 8 GHz with 1.2 MHz spectral resolution within 14 μs. The proposed schematic can be easily upgraded to higher bandwidth coverage, fast scan speed or finer spectral resolution, making it extremely interesting for microwave sensing applications.
