Perturbation Methods for Evaluating the Bounds on Displacements of Structures with Uncertain but Bounded Parameters

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

For the structural parameters with errors or uncertainties, interval mathematics can, in the case where the probabilistic distribution density of uncertain variables is unavailable, deal with the influences of errors or uncertainties in structural parameters on the response of structures. In order to calculate the region containing displacements of structures with uncertain but bounded parameters, by comparing the interval parameter perturbation method and the interval matrix perturbation methods in mathematical analysis and the numerical operation, the interval parameter perturbation method not only calculates the width of region containing displacements which is smaller than that of the interval matrix perturbation method, but also improves its computational efficiency. The numerical example illustrates the efficiency of the proposed method.
