Abstract

In order to analyze the performance of Single-Carrier (SC) 60 GHz communication system, a structure of physical layer is designed based on IEEE 802.11ad standard. The impacts of hardware impairments on the communication performance are studied, including phase noise and non-linear distortion of Power Amplifier (PA), and the non-linear distortion is more significant. Simulation results indicate that the performance degradation caused by hardware impairments is much less for π/2-BPSK and π/2-QPSK modulation than that for π/2-16QAM modulation. To get a high bit rate and acceptable performance, π/2-QPSK modulation is a good choice in general, and π/2-16QAM is better when hardware impairments are trivial.
