Abstract
In traditional mobile streaming system, all users pull streams from the server. This model causes users high communication cost and heavy burden to base station. At the same time, the low bandwidth of cellular network can't meet the requirements of high quality video. In this paper, we propose a fully distributed, scalable, and cost effective system called Peer-to-Peer leveraged Mobile streaming based on Pull and Push (P2PMP2). In P2PMP2, only a few users pull video data from base station. Using free local broadcast channels (such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), users can share the streams with nearby neighbors with the policy of "pull and push". Incorporating with multiple descriptions coding (MDC), P2PMP2 achieves the purpose that all the users can obtain high quality video by only a few users pulling video data from base station. The simulation results show that the system can not only reduce the communication cost and cellular bandwidth requirement, but also improve the system performance obviously.
