Other Methods of Polymer Surface Modifications

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter describes polymer surface modifications by energy beam processing and mechanical machining. The focus is on reporting the most recent research results in commonly used processes including laser beam processing and micromachining. Brief discussion is also provided for producing micro/nanoscale features by focused ion beam, electron beam, X-ray lithography, and abrasive jet machining. Some of the methods are used to modify polymer surface directly, while some others are used to produce surface features on hard materials such as metal and silicon that can be used to replicate the same features on polymer surfaces. However, our intention is to not cover every available technology for polymer surface modifications.
