Abstract

The theoretical, experimental and numerical investigation have been performed in order to obtain the guidelines for the design and operating parameters envelope optimization of the AF-MPDT operating in low discharge current high mass flow rate regime. The power range of the target thruster is 5-10 kW, current levels are 100-180 A, total mass flow rate is 21 mg/s, maximal applied magnetic field strength 0.133 T. At the current stage of the research the maximal thrust efficiency obtained is 21%, the maximal thrust-296 mN. The suggestions for the further thruster optimization are presented.
