Abstract

In conceptual design phase of mechanical product, after mapping elemental function to structure component, combinatorial explosion occurred during forming design scheme by configuring components. To solve this problem, an optimal component subset selection method based on component-failure knowledge was presented. By trimming and analyzing failure history of corresponding products, the knowledge model of "Component-Failure Mode-mode Relationship-Failure risk (CFMRF)" was set up. Knowledge on "component-failure mode", "relationship among failure modes", and "failure mode-failure risk" were also obtained. Based on the CFMRF repository, the calculation method on Risk Priority Number (RPN) of component failure was put forward, and the optimal component subset slection method was presented. Finally, this method was validated by auto differential gear development as example.
