Ontology-based multi-view modeling for integrated product development

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

To satisfy the demand for integrating and sharing information and knowledge of performance domain and Reliability, Maintainability, and Supportability (RMS) domain in integrated product development process, the relationships among structure view, function view and RMS oriented views were analyzed in particular. Because the existing multi-view model couldn't support the RMS knowledge description and share, a reference ontology based on product and failure was proposed. Furthermore, an ontology-based multi-view model framework of integrated product development for performance and RMS was established. At the same time, a transformation matrix was used to describe the mapping rules for these views based on reference ontology. Finally, an implementation method of the model for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system was presented, and the rationale of the model was manifested by its successful application in a prototype of integrated product development platform of performance and RMS based on a practical enterprise PLM system, TeamCenter Enterprise 2005 SR1.
