Abstract

Transmission line icing is one of the common disasters in power system. Icing phenomenon is influenced by many external factors, such as climatic condition, voltage degree and so on. Observation is extremely difficult due to these reasons. This paper depicts the design of an on-line monitoring system of transmission line icing based on DSP. The system captures icing images by CCD (Charge Coupled Device) camera and samples micrometeorology parameters by sensors. Thickness of ice can be directly calculated by image processing methods and ice density can also be calculated with ice thickness and micrometeorology parameters. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) wireless network is used in this system to transmit image data and other useful information to monitoring center so that the data can be saved and managed.
