Abstract

In this work, an electro-optic cross-correlation scheme based on dual optical frequency comb is proposed to perform on-line pulse compression for photonic-Assisted ultra-wideband (UWB) channel sounding. The proof-of-concept demonstration presents the compression of a 2-ns linear frequency modulated signal spanning 3 octaves (2-12 GHz) to its bandwidth-limited form without off-line correlation computation. Such system significantly reduces the complexity of the digital signal processing in photonic UWB channel characterization, showcasing potentials in the application of the next generation of wireless communication where latency requirement is stringent.
