Abstract

Structure failure criterions are discussed by numerical method in this paper. Some typical MSD structures have been calculated using elastic-plastic finite element method (EPFEM). Numerical results show that the failure mode follows the fracture mechanics criterion, the net-ligament loss/yield stress criterion, the fracture mechanics criterion or link-up criterion for plane strain MSD structures, narrow plane stress MSD structures, wide plane stress MSD panels, respectively. If the wide of the panel is not enough, failure mode maybe follows the net-ligament loss/yield stress criterion.
