Numerical study of jet impingement heat transfer inside aero-engine inlet strut with film-heating anti-icing system

Abstract

Film heating anti-icing system that applied on aero-engine inlet strut manufactured with carbon fiber reinforced resin composite was investigated. Firstly, Numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics was conducted, where the independence of grid was checked and Realizable k-ε turbulence model with Enhanced wall treatment was selected. Secondly, the fundamental heat transfer characteristics of the impingement heat transfer process were explored on the smallest symmetry unit of the aero-engine inlet strut. Results indicated that the existence of the film slots could significantly enhance the impingement heat transfer and both interior impingement heat transfer and exterior film heating could contribute to external surface heating. Finally, the effects of film slots structure parameters, such as slot width and slot configuration were comprehensively investigated. Results showed that, 1) The increase of the film slot width could enhance the impingement heat transfer between the hot air and the inside wall of leading edge because it could narrow the stagnation area. 2) Compared with the whole slot structure, the staggered slot configuration was conducive to create more turbulent flow inside the cavity to enhance the impingement heat transfer. This research will be helpful to understand the jet impingement heat transfer process inside aero-engine inlet strut with film-heating anti-icing system.
