Numerical simulation of flow in shrouded turbine based on multi-dimensional coupled method

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Numerical simulation of flow field in the shrouded turbine based on multi-dimensional coupled method has an important significance for turbine aerodynamic design and evaluation of turbine performance, which can give attention to both computational efficiency and precision and shorten the design period of engineering systems. A low dimensional shroud leakage flow model is developed in this paper. The model can predict the two-dimensional distribution of the leakage flow because of the mass, momentum, energy and other key features considered. The flow in the inlet cavity was also modeled. Based on this model, the multi-dimensional coupling simulations of flow in the shrouded turbine were performed, which were also verified by the numerical results of full three dimensional flow field. The results show that the shroud leakage flow model and the relevant coupling method can predict the flow of shrouded turbine reasonably and accurately.
