Abstract

This paper presents a numerical tuning method for Proportional-Integral (PI) controller parameters when the plant's transfer function is already known. Four main criteria: Integral Square Error (ISE), Rise time, Overshoot and Undershoot are used to minimize the range of the PI parameter pair. Then a comprehensive criterion of ISE and Rise time is raised to find the optimal PI parameter combination among all the candidates. Finally, this numerical PI tuning method is tested in aircraft's pitch angle controller design, results show that a better plant dynamics and robustness are acquired.
