Abstract

Trimaran is one of the most ideal hull form for long-endurance Unmanned Surface Vehicle due to its outstanding seakeeping and resistance performance. A novel trimaran with deformable connection between the main and side hulls is proposed to improve motion of the main hull and reduce the wave added resistance. Numerical simulation of the deformable trimaran advancing at design speed in head waves is performed, which indicates: the elastic connection helps to reduce the resistance in regular waves tremendously, and similar refinements are also shown in heave movement.
