Abstract

At 5G and beyond frequencies, the existence of scatterers such as dust or water vapor in the propagation medium can cause significant attenuation of radio signals, and needs to be considered properly during the characterization of wireless communications links. In this paper, a three-dimensional radio wave propagation model, based on a split-step parabolic equation method, is applied to evaluate the impacts of those scatterers on indoor channel characteristics. The Maxwell Garnett equation is utilized for the effective medium approximations. The simulated received power in a factory geometry at 4.9 GHz with the presence of dust and water vapor in the propagation medium is compared. The effect of environmental visibility is also analyzed.
