Abstract

An interferometric fiber optic sensor for health monitoring of large dimension composite structure is developed. The stain and temperature characteristic of sensor is measured in the test. The sensor is composed of optical connector E2000, coupler and two single bare fibers. The test results show the linear relation between the length change of measurement fiber and the strain increment. At the same time we find change of temperature has an effect on the length of measurement fiber. The sensor can identify the damage of composite. The interferometric sensor and the sensor produced by SMARTEC are compared. The difference of the measured value obtained from different sensors is very small.
