Novel electrochemical advanced oxidation processes with H2O2generation cathode for water treatment: A review

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

Recently, electrochemical generation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) using cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) has been conventionally implemented in electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) for water treatment. H2O2 could be activated using reagents like Fe2+ and O3 to produce the hydroxyl radicals (•OH), and further reduce organics. The conventional Fenton, Peroxone and Electro-Oxidation (EO) processes were enhanced using H2O2 generation cathode to execute Electro-Fenton, Electro-Peroxone and ORR-EO processes. In this study, the carbon-based materials as catalysts for H2O2 generation cathode were generally investigated. The development of cutting-edge EAOPs based on H2O2 generation cathode was introduced using three stories. The future viewpoint of EAOPs based on H2O2 generation cathode was discussed.
