abstract = "For practical reasons, network simulators have to be designed on traffic models as realistic as possible. This paper presents the evaluation of a realistic IP structure model that accurately captures the packet on interactions of a range of applications. Through automatically extracted distributions of user, application, and network behavior, it then generates live traffic corresponding to the underlying structure models in a network simulation environment running commodity network protocol stacks. We compare them against real data traces using two methods of evaluation. With a wavelet spectrum analysis, we highlight the intrinsic characteristics of the traffic and show this model's ability to generate traffic traces statistically similar to the original traffic. Then, a performance analysis based on simulations presents the impact of these characteristics on a simple queuing system, and demonstrates this model's ability to reproduce burstiness in traffic across a range of timescales which can be used in a variety of network settings. This work offers several improvements in terms of both functionalities and performance.",
