Abstract
To overcome the defects of the present permanent magnet biased radial hybrid magnetic bearing, a new permanent magnet biased radial hybrid magnetic bearing in magnetic suspending flywheel application is reported. The fundamental principle of the radial magnetic bearing is presented. The radial magnetic bearing are analyzed and calculated by using the equivalent magnet circuit and finite element method (FEM). As a matter of fact, the flux of permanent magnet and electromagnetism occur in any radial plane, so the axial length of the radial magnetic bearing will be less. Therefore, the presented radial magnetic bearing has smaller volume compared to the existing structure. In addition, there is no coupling between X and Y direction so that the control is easier. It is more applied to the high speed or low loss occasions.
