Abstract
To meet the demand for advanced turbine engines, new materials and new manufacturing technologies for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) applications have been sought. Ceramic materials with high operating temperature capabilities and other excellent thermo-physical and mechanical properties have been investigated by materials researchers, with the purpose of replacing the currently used yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ). Also, several novel processing methods have been proposed recently by researchers to develop more reliable and durable TBCs.
