Neutral layer and springback analysis in press bend forming of aircraft integral panels

Abstract

Press bend forming is a main fabrication method for the high-stiffener integral panel. But the present press bend forming process relies completely on workers' experiences instead of theoretical instructions, which adds restrictions to the production of new aircrafts in China. According to the characteristics of the symmetric and asymmetric cross section specimens with ribs inside, the translation and the rotation of the bending neutral layer have been derived and verified by FEA simulation. The springback calculation model and the relation between the punch displacement and the springback amount are all deduced and verified by FEA simulation and experiments.
