Multi-domain analysis of tangential-set permanent magnet synchronous generator

Abstract

The influence of armature reaction and air-gap permeance variation on the rotor eddy-current loss in the high-speed tangential-set permanent magnet synchronous generator is analyzed through the multi-domain finite element method. The rotor eddy-current loss and meanwhile the temperature-rise of the rotor can be reduced effectively through employing magnetic slot wedges. The results of the multi-domain finite element analysis associated with electromagnetic-thermal fields in the tangential-set permanent magnet synchronous generator verified this approach. And the design approach for determining the rated operating point was obtained by analyzing the influence of the temperature on the electromagnetic characteristics in the extreme thermal condition.
