Abstract

In this paper, the balance of twisted-wire pairs (TWP) is introduced and its role in TWP's mode conversion effects is performed. The average per-unit-length parameters of the unbalanced TWP are derived. The mechanism for which the imbalanced TWP produces mode conversion effects is described and analyzed. The proposed mode conversion model is verified by MoM for balanced TWP and the law of how balance degree affects the TWP mode conversion is given. The results show that the slight imbalance (only 1%) may greatly increase the amplitude of DM currents (even 30 dB) in the low-frequency range.
