Abstract

Frequency selective surfaces (FSS) have been widely applied in various radomes due to their outstanding electromagnetic properties. However, research on the applications of FSS lags far behind its electromagnetic properties, especially in the area of modeling. Therefore, this paper aims to address the modeling problem of undevelopable curved surface FSS radomes by proposing a method based on plastic deformation simulation. This method first establishes a complete mapping relation between the plates before and after plastic deformation through plastic deformation simulation. Then, corresponding areas on the radome surface are found respectively on this mapping. In this way, as long as the FSS array is arranged in the corresponding area of the radome curved surface on the flat plate, the three-dimensional model of the curved FSS radome can be obtained at the corresponding position of the plate after plastic deformation. This paper also systematically introduces the steps of this method using a “duckbill” -shaped radome as an example, and establishes the FSS array structure on this undevelopable curved surface. This method not only provides a new approach for modeling but also offers a potential solution for the plastic forming of curved FSS radomes, making it practically valuable.
