Abstract

Applying pedestrian flow theory, we in this paper propose an extended cellular automaton (CA)model to study each pedestrian's motion in a university canteen. To testify the model accuracy, we take the second canteen of Beihang University as one example to collect some data and calibrate the main parameters of the proposed model. The validation results indicate that the proposed model can perfectly reproduce each pedestrian's motion in the university canteen and that the accuracy of the parameter's calibration is relatively high. Finally, some numerical tests are conducted to evaluate the safety performance and efficiency of the canteen under different situations.
