Abstract

To study the sound field features of bulk wave electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs), a novel modeling method is proposed by combining numerical solutions with analytical calculations. Three commonly used bulk wave EMATs operating on the Lorentz principle have been modeled with consideration of the influence of dynamic magnetic fields generated by EMATs. Simulation and comparison show that double-spiral-coil EMATs have stronger detectability due to their smaller divergence angles and more intensive energy distribution. The accuracy of the established models is verified by experiments.
