Abstract

The aim of numerical experiment of ram air turbine is mainly to simulate its adjustable-pitch aerodynamic characteristic on the actual flight-refuel condition. The Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model and the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations were used to simulate the 3-D internal and external mixed flow fields. The cause of load distributing on the blade surface was analyzed and the main aerodynamic characters of the turbine flow fields were described. The simulation results were compared with the experimental data by wind tunnel. It can improve the ram air turbine performance by optimizing the blade shape near the hub region.
