Abstract

Laser surface alloying with the mixture of WC particles and TA15 titanium alloy powder was employed to improve the wear resistance of titanium alloy. The laser alloyed coating was successfully fabricated with β-Ti riched W element as matrix and primary/eutectic TiC/(TiW)C phase as the reinforcement. The results show that due to addition of W and C elements, the microhardness of the laser alloyed coating is improved and wear resistance is increased by 2-3 times. The TiC phase has played an important role in improving wear resistance of the coating.
