Abstract
A Mo-Si-Al coating was prepared on Nb-based alloy utilizing D-gun spraying of a Mo layer followed by co-deposition of Si and Al. The coating possesses a three-layer structure, containing a Mo(Si,Al)2 outer layer, a middle layer composed of Mo5(Si,Al)3 and Al8Mo3, and an AlMo3 inner layer. Static oxidation test was carried out at 1250 °C and the oxidation behavior of the coating was investigated. The result indicates that the oxidation of the Mo-Si-Al coating obeys a parabolic law. The oxidation resistance of the substrate is remarkably enhanced by applying a Mo-Si-Al coating, owing to the formation of a protective external α-Al2O3 scale.
