Abstract
In order to improve on the poor color saturation and low brightness of image on the projection screen, a new phosphor screen based on a Fabry-Perot microcavity is proposed. The phosphor screen consists of dielectric mirrors sandwiching the phosphor layer and has unique light output characterized by a narrow spectral distribution and high luminance. The design of blue phosphor screen has been done using Matlab. The TXX550 vacuum film depositing system with electron beam heater was used to fabricate the phosphor screen. The results show that the resonant microcavity phosphor screen's wavelength bandwidth of emission is 3.4 times narrower than the conventional phosphor screen, and luminance peak is 8 times higher than the conventional one. The error between experiment and calculation is acceptable.
