Abstract
High-quality automobile deck part metallic dies were manufactured using rapid prototyping (RP) technology. The process uses the RP technology of subtractive/additive forming and nonmetallic prototype manufacturing. A super-large scale LOM-1600 RP device, based on the concurrent process technology, fills in the gaps of large-scale prototype manufacturing. The dimensional accuracy of solidification processes was numerically simulated using the nonlinear FEM with the RP prototype dimensions optimized by dynamic information feedback. The process and mechanism of the unbaked ceramic casting process were introduced in detail. The manufacturing system of automobile deck part metallic dies using RP technology is a new closed-circuit control system for metallic die design and manufacture. The success of these processes has been confirmed by real production.
