Abstract

In this paper, a new method for locating rub fault in rotating machinery based on acoustic emission signals is processed by wavelet packet and beamforming method. Firstly, the characteristics of rub emission acoustic signals which can be used to guide the establishment of positioning method is obtained by using plate wave theory. On the basis of the results, the wavelet packet transform is introduced to extract the component which is less influenced by dispersion phenomenon and suitable for positioning the rub fault. This method is used to locate the rotor-stator rub fault occurring on the experimental device in fault. The results are discussed and it is found the beamforming method combined with wavelet analysis is an effective tool to estimate the position where rubbing happens.
