Abstract

To explore the predictive ability for the penetration characteristics of the impact limit equations about honeycomb sandwich, 3 types of ballistic limit equations, equivalent methods on the panel thickness, and 131 CFRP experimental data had been investigated, and the predictive ability of the equations had been calculated. The results show that the predicted probabilities of MET equation to other data source are all over 80%, so MET equation can be preferred in the engineering prediction for the protective structure. The safety prediction rates of SRL quation to other data source and self data source are all reach 100%, so SRL equation suits for the design of high reliability protection structure. Finally, the idea of optimizing coefficients and speed cut-off value for the impact limit equations was studied to improve the predictive ability.
