Abstract

Effects of different environment swirl on liquid fuel spray were investigated with a constant volume vessel modelling high temperature and high pressure conditions of diesel engine combustion chamber. Large eddy simulation (LES) was incorporated into the KIVAERC code, and three dimensional simulation results for three swirl numbers were obtained using both LES and RANS. Results show that as environment swirl increasing, the spray structure becomes more complicated and vertical structure is enhanced. It is also found that the LES method can better reveal effects of swirl on spray structure compared to RANS.
