Abstract

In this paper, the explosive welding technique was introduced to manufacture ODS-Cu/316 L stainless steel composite. The experimental and numerical investigations were carried out on the microstructure evolution as well as mechanical properties of the bonding interface. In both microstructure observations and mechanical tests, an excellent bonding quality of ODS-Cu/316 L stainless steel clad was confirmed, supporting that the explosive welding technology is a feasible way to fabricate high-quality ODS-Cu/316 L stainless steel joints. The EBSD results revealed a remarkable diversity of the grain structure at the bonding interface, including elongated grains, rectangular grains, equiaxed fine grains and columnar grains. The simulation reproduced the wavy interface observed in experiment accurately and forecasted the thermomechanical behavior of interface adequately, giving an opportunity to elucidate the observed phenomena.
